Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I learn how to use GRITS?

You can schedule a personal GRITS tour, watch a previously recorded walkthrough, or review the GRITS Guide to learn to use GRITS. Check out the resources above or contact us.

How long does it take to learn to use GRITS?

We’ve found most users can be up to speed and confidently using GRITS with an hour of training time or less.

How long does it take to enter a project into GRITS?

GRITS users generally find that it takes just a minute or two to enter a new project once they’re familiar with the platform. You can also choose to upload project data from a spreadsheet.

Do I need a technical background to use GRITS?

No technical background is required! GRITS users are diverse—facilities and sustainability staff, higher education administrators and faculty, and students all use the application. GRITS’ intuitive user interface was built to be accessible to people from various backgrounds.

Is the data I enter into GRITS shared with others?

For-profit institutions do not participate in the GRITS Project Library. For non-profit institutions, all projects that are marked as “completed” are sent to the Library, where they are visible to other non-profit GRITS users. Projects left as “proposed” or “in-progress” are only visible to your own institution. Users have the option of sharing their data anonymously, but all the projects in the Library will also appear as “anonymous” to your institution. You can also opt out of participation in the GRITS Library if you’d rather not share any data or access the Library at all.

What if I think of a feature that would be helpful to add to GRITS?

Many GRITS features originated with suggestions from users. If you identify a feature that would allow GRITS to better support your work, please contact us.

Does GRITS work for institutions located outside of the United States and Canada?

Yes! Institutions in the UK, Australia, and New Zealand also use GRITS. If your organization is located outside of the U.S. and Canada and you’re wondering if GRITS meets your needs, please contact us.

How much does GRITS cost?

We designed GRITS to be affordable for all kinds of institutions, so the price is based on your operating budget. Please see our pricing page to learn about different subscription levels or contact us to request a price quote.
