About
Why we created GRITS
GRITS is a sustainability project management platform developed by the Sustainable Endowments Institute (SEI), a Boston-based organization. SEI launched GRITS in 2014 as part of its mission to mobilize institutional investment in climate solutions. Today, GRITS supports the conservation work of hundreds of organizations.
Every day, institutions are undertaking projects that reduce resource consumption and utility costs. SEI created GRITS because no tool existed to track and highlight these projects’ significant energy, carbon, and financial impacts. GRITS is designed to be an affordable upgrade over traditional spreadsheet tracking for institutions pursuing their sustainability goals.
GRITS is used by a diverse range of more than 800 institutions across the US, Canada, Britain, Australia, and New Zealand. Institutional sectors represented include higher education, commercial, healthcare, K-12 schools, and municipal, county, and state governments.
