Announcing the GRITS AI Assistant

As we build new features in GRITS, one area of focus has been how to make the extensive insights in the Project Library more visible and accessible to GRITS users. The Library Digest, which emails users a sample of the projects most recently added to the Library, was the last feature devoted to that purpose. With the development of AI tools, we realized that new opportunities were available to highlight insights in the Library by incorporating the prompt-based searches that increasing numbers of people are using.

Today we are launching an AI-powered assistant that allows GRITS users to explore project data in the GRITS Library in new ways. You can initiate a chat with the assistant via the dialog box in the navigation menu or by clicking on the “AI Assistant” link in the menu.

You can ask about:

  • Project trends
  • Ideas for retrofitting particular building types
  • Broad strategies to reduce energy use, carbon emissions, water use, and waste production
  • …and more—you may discover additional use cases as you explore what the assistant can do

Wherever you are in the project management process (identification, implementation, communicating impacts to stakeholders, etc.), you can receive guidance informed by what other GRITS users have accomplished. This tool is in beta, which means that its development is ongoing and that we will be gathering user feedback to evaluate it.

We know that AI tools have their own resource consumption requirements and impacts on the planet. This AI assistant is a small-scale tool that we anticipate will provide useful insights to support resource conservation that outweigh those requirements. The project data available to the assistant is not used for any purpose other than answering user prompts in GRITS and it is not permanently retained by any third party. We value the perspectives of every person who uses GRITS to advance their sustainability goals, so if you have thoughts, questions, or concerns that you would like to share, please reach out to us at support@gogrits.org. We listen to all of the feedback we receive and use it to make GRITS more effective for everyone.

Thank you,

The GRITS Team
